Kathmandu: German Ambassador to Nepal, Udo Eugen Volz, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, where they discussed critical aspects of bilateral cooperation.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the meeting took place at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Singha Durbar. Ambassador Volz extended his congratulations to Minister Ghising, wishing him a successful tenure. Their discussions focused on ongoing projects in Nepal, financially supported by Germany, such as solar power initiatives and the Lekhnath-Damauli 220 KV transmission line.
The conversation also explored opportunities for expanding German assistance in Nepal’s energy transformation. Minister Ghising expressed gratitude for Germany’s long-standing support, highlighting the significance of the Madhya-Marsyangdi and Marsyangdi hydro power projects. These projects, supported by Germany, are pivotal to Nepal’s energy sector.
Minister Ghising underscored the importance of completing the Pokhara-Butwal-Bharatpur triangle project by 2029, a venture supported by Germany and the European Union. He urged further cooperation in enhancing electricity usage in electric vehicles and domestic consumption in these regions. Additionally, he sought German support for feasibility studies on trolley buses and creating charging stations linking the three cities.
Furthermore, the Minister requested technical and expert support for rebuilding public infrastructure damaged during recent arson incidents in the Gen-Z movement. In response, Ambassador Volz mentioned that a German team would visit Nepal in December to identify potential areas for assistance over the next two years and review current support strategies.
