Kathmandu: Nepal has officially qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka. This marks Nepal’s third overall appearance in the prestigious tournament and its second consecutive participation.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Nepal’s qualification was confirmed after securing a top-three position in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and EAP Qualifier in Oman. The team’s journey to the World Cup was further aided by the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) significant 77-run victory over Samoa in the Super Six stage of the qualifier.
Nepal previously participated in the T20 World Cup in 2014 and 2024. Initially, Nepal required two more points to secure its spot, but the UAE’s victory against Samoa simplified the path to qualification.
In related developments, Oman also qualified for the World Cup after Qatar defeated Japan by three wickets in another match held today. Both Nepal and Oman have accumulated six points from three matches, while the UAE stands at four points, with Japan and Qatar having two points each.
The final team to join Nepal and Oman in the World Cup will be determined after the UAE faces Japan in their upcoming match. Meanwhile, Nepal is set to face Oman in its third match of the Super Six stage.
