Colombo: The Nepali female community health volunteers have been honored with the prestigious ‘public health champion’ award by the World Health Organization. This accolade was presented to acknowledge their significant contributions to public health in Nepal.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the award was presented by the Director General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and WHO Acting Chief Dr. Catharina Boehme. The presentation was made through Dr. Purna Bahadur Nepali, the Nepali Ambassador to Sri Lanka, during the 78th meeting of the WHO’s South-East Asia Regional Committee held in Colombo.
Dr. Bhakta KC, Information Officer at the Ministry of Health and Population, noted that the award recognizes the invaluable work carried out by female community health volunteers in Nepal. Their efforts have significantly increased access to health services and improved public health outcomes in the region.
