Kathmandu: The Nepal Police has successfully arrested 122 prisoners who had escaped from various prisons during the Gen-Z protest demonstrations on September 9. This operation took place in Kathmandu.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the District Police Range Kathmandu, the Valley Crime Investigation Office, and its team collaborated to apprehend the fugitives who seized the opportunity to escape amidst the chaos of the Gen-Z demonstrations. Among the arrested individuals, 35 were convicted for theft, three for polygamy, 17 for rape, three for culpable homicide, 30 for narcotics, three for banking offenses, 12 for attempted murder, and three for organized crime.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa, Chief of the Kathmandu District Police Office, reported that the arrests also included three individuals serving terms for robbery, three for vehicular manslaughter, six for offenses related to kidnapping, one for human trafficking, and three for other cases. Out of the 122 arrested, 112 are men and 10 are women.
Senior Superintendent of Police Thapa further informed that a manhunt is ongoing for the remaining fugitives who are still at large following the protest-related jailbreak. He urged the public to remain vigilant, as there might be escaped prisoners from various jails in the community and neighborhood. Thapa requested that any sightings or information about the fugitives be reported immediately to the nearest police post or through the police hotline 100.
