Kathmandu: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr Madan Prasad Pariyar, has stressed that agricultural land should be protected as food security is considered a matter of national security. In a message on the occasion of the 45th World Food Day today, Minister Pariyar emphasized the need for commercializing and modernizing the agriculture sector by using the available land properly.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Pariyar stated that making people feel secure about food through increased production and productivity is the main challenge of the present hour. He mentioned that various events were organized under the leadership of the Ministry and in coordination with the Department of Agriculture under the theme ‘Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future’.
Minister Pariyar added that World Food Day is observed worldwide on October 16 every year, highlighting collective efforts and solidarity to face challenges like malnutrition and starvation. Nepal has been observing World Food Day since 2038 BS.
The message further highlighted that out of around 4.13 million farmer families in the country, 55 percent do not have enough food for a year.
