Jaleshwor: With the completion of the Tihar festival, preparation for the biggest festival of Madhes has kicked off in the district. A culture expert, Dhrub Ray, informed that preparation for the Chhath festival began with the cleaning of rivers, ponds, streams, and brooks at Jaleshwor municipality-5.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during the Chhath festival, Sun God and Chhathi Mata are worshipped from the ponds and streams of the Mithila region. For the convenience of people’s mobility and access to streams, road defects are being repaired, as stated by Bijay Kumar Singh, Chairperson of Jaleshwor municipality-8.
Mayor of Jaleshwor municipality, Suresh Sah Sonar, informed that people were installing street lights and collecting puja materials, along with decorative items such as festoons and marquees. Keshav Jha is serving as the coordinator of the Chhath puja committee. Makeshift temples and shrines are being constructed from bamboo at the Pathak Pokhari, a pond in ward no 8.
The Barun Sarobar is another water spot where devotees gather to celebrate the Chhath festival. Similarly, the rivers in Matihani, Gaushala, Aurahi, Alawa, and Loharpatti attract sizable crowds during the Chhath celebration.
