Women’s Football: Nepal Triumphs Over India in Penalty Shootout Victory


Kathmandu: In a thrilling display of women’s football, Nepal emerged victorious over India in a friendly match decided by a penalty shootout at the Palzor Stadium in Sikkim, India. The encounter concluded with Nepal defeating the host team 3-0 in the tie-breaker after the match ended in a 1-1 draw during regular time.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the match saw a tense 90 minutes where both teams showcased their skills but ended in a stalemate. Indian striker Soumya Guguloth opened the scoring with a goal in the 30th minute, but Nepal’s Anita Basnet equalized in extra time, setting the stage for the dramatic penalty shootout.



In the shootout, Nepal’s prowess shone through as Sabita Ranamagar, Rashmi Kumari Ghising, and Nisha Thokar successfully converted their penalties. Meanwhile, Nepal’s goalkeeper, Anjana Ranamagar, played a crucial role by saving India’s first and third penalties. The second penalty attempt by India went astray, sealing their fate in the match.
