Kathmandu: The Meteorology Forecasting Division has forecasted that the ‘Montha’ cyclone will bring rainfall to most parts of Nepal until Saturday morning. Bibhuti Pokharel, spokesperson of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, informed that intermittent rainfall is expected in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, with moderate rain anticipated in other provinces. The weather is likely to improve only from Saturday morning.
According to National News Agency Nepal, spokesperson Pokharel indicated that rain is expected in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas within the next 24 hours, although continuous rain will not occur in all places of the Valley. Additionally, there is a possibility of heavy snowfall in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Meteorological Forecasting Division, reported that the ‘Montha’ cyclone developed in the Bay of Bengal and made landfall in Andhra Pradesh, India, on the night of October 28. The system then gradually weakened and moved towards the north and northwest, approaching closer to the central region of Nepal as a low-pressure area before moving eastward.
The Division stated that this weather system will affect the weather in Bagmati, Madhes, and Koshi provinces of Nepal from today until November 1. The influence of the system suggests a possibility of moderate rainfall in most parts of Madhesh and Koshi provinces and some areas of Bagmati province. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has advised everyone to take necessary precautions due to the possibility of heavy rainfall in one or two places in these provinces.
