Kathmandu: The Department of Information and Broadcasting has announced that it will handle the registration and renewal of online media, streamlining the process for service recipients.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the department will maintain records of registration and operation of online media and will regularly provide these records to the Press Council. This initiative aims to eliminate the previous challenges faced by online media operators, who had to submit documents to multiple agencies.
The decision comes after numerous complaints were received regarding the cumbersome process of submitting various documents for identical tasks. In response, the department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, has implemented a single-door system to simplify the procedure.
A notice published by the Department of Information today confirmed that service recipients would no longer need to submit documents, including registration certificates, to the Press Council for record updates. The Press Council Nepal also issued a notice stating that with the revised Printing and Publication Regulations, 2082 now in effect, it will no longer handle the archiving and listing of online media outlets.
Since assuming the role of Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel has advocated for a single-door system to streamline media-related activities, ensuring efficiency and ease.
