Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order preventing the immediate implementation of the interim government’s decision to recall ambassadors. This decision was made by a joint bench comprising Justices Sharanga Subedi and Shrikant Poudel, who ruled against the government’s move to recall ambassadors.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the court’s decision follows a previous action by a single bench led by Justice Binod Sharma, which had requested a written response regarding the matter. After deliberations between the involved parties, the court decided to issue the interim order, effectively pausing the recall of ambassadors.
The controversy began when Advocate Pratibha Upreti filed a writ petition challenging the legality of the government’s decision. The petition argued that recalling ambassadors was illegal, as it lacked the necessary parliamentary hearing due to the dissolution of the House of Representatives and lacked a constitutional basis for appointing new ambassadors.
The interim government had earlier decided to recall 11 ambassadors, instructing them to return by November 6.
