Province’s Chief Ministers Share Common Viewpoint on Cooperation with Federal Government


Baluwatar: Prime Minister Sushila Karki held a meeting with all seven Chief Ministers today on diverse issues including creating a favorable climate for holding upcoming elections. Held at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar, the Chief Ministers shared their commitment to cooperate with the federal government for creating conducive environment for polls, the PM’s Secretariat stated.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Chief Ministers appreciated the initiative taken by PM Karki to bring all political parties for talks and dialogue and hoped that the step would be instrumental in setting favorable environment for polls. On the occasion, the Chief Ministers mentioned that security issue is the major challenge for the polls.



They argued that the polls scheduled for March 5, 2026, could be held in the slated date through mutual cooperation, coordination, and coexistence of federal, province, and local governments. Chief Minister of Karnali Province Yamlal Kandel said the federal government should work to create polls environment adding that election was the outlet to the current situation.



Likewise, the Chief Ministers suggested that the federal government should unveil a certain package for the reconstruction of the damaged property during the Gen-Z protests. They also expressed doubt whether the federal government was interfering with the scope of the province governments by writing for austerity.



Chief Minister of Madhesh Province Jitendra Prasad Sonar asked the prime minister to announce a relief package to the farmers affected by drought and heavy rain. Likewise, the Chief Ministers raised the issue of power supply disconnection to the industries and its possible consequences on laborers and the revenue collection.



According to the PM’s Secretariat, PM Karki said she was willing to handover the power to the party’s government by holding the elections soon adding that the political parties are the leaders of this political system. Chief Minister of Koshi Province Hikmat Bahadur Karki, Chief Minister of Madhesh Province Sonar, Chief Minister of Bagmati Province Indra Bahadur Baniya, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Surendra Raj Pandey, Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Chet Narayan Acharya, Chief Minister of Karnali Province Kandel, and Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province Kamal Bahadur Shah were present at the meeting with PM Karki.
