Kathmandu: The government has officially declared 45 individuals who were killed during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9 as martyrs. This decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday, as announced by Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Kharel stated that the decision to bestow martyr status was based on evaluations from the Home Ministry, various district administration offices, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders. He also mentioned that investigations are ongoing regarding other casualties, with decisions pending further confirmation.
In addition to the martyr declarations, the cabinet meeting allocated Rs 53 million to the Disaster Management Fund. This fund aims to support local levels in the Ilam district, which has been declared a crisis zone due to recent monsoon-induced disasters.
