First Successful Ascent of Chhuama Mountain Achieved by International Team


Lomanthang: An eight-member mountaineering team, including three mountaineers from South Korea, has successfully climbed Chhuama mountain, which stands at an altitude of 6,213 meters. They reached the summit on November 2, as reported by the National Trust for Nature Conservation, Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Lomanthang.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the ascent of Chhuama mountain in Upper Mustang necessitated starting from Namdo village in Lomanthang Rural Municipality-4, with the team making their way via the 5,480-meter-high Chuama base camp. The expedition included five Nepali tourist guides along with South Korean mountaineers Dongjin, Namyong, and Hnichul. They successfully conquered the mountain by navigating through the Chuama base camp, shared Umesh Poudel, the Office Chief of ACAP Lomanthang.



The South Korean team returned to Lomanthang after climbing the third peak among the three Chuama peaks in Upper Mustang, marking the first successful ascent of these peaks. The team commenced their journey to the Chuama peak at 2:00 am on November 2, taking approximately 10 hours from the Chuma base camp to reach the summit.



ACAP Chief Poudel highlighted that this inaugural mountaineering achievement on the Chuama Himal is expected to significantly boost tourism and mountaineering activities in the Upper Mustang region.
