Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel has announced the government’s dedication to broadening the reach of free Wi-Fi internet services across major public venues in the country. The initiative aims to enhance internet accessibility in both the federal capital and remote rural areas.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Kharel made this pledge during an inspection of the existing free Wi-Fi services in Kathmandu. He emphasized his commitment to advancing this initiative, focusing on sensitive and significant public locations within Kathmandu and extending it to less connected districts such as Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Rautahat, Gulmi, Myagdi, Jumla, and Baitadi.
The Nepal Telecommunication Authority is spearheading the expansion of this service through collaboration with companies like Nepal Telecom, private sector Ncell, Worldlink, and Vianet, in partnership with local communities. The minister, accompanied by Secretary Radhika Aryal, assessed the free internet services at key locations, including the New Bus Park, Teaching Hospital, Pashupati Aryaghat complex, and Tribhuvan International Airport.
Secretary Aryal also noted plans to increase internet capacity, emphasizing the government’s focus on enhancing user satisfaction as part of the ongoing expansion efforts.
