Kathmandu: Leaders from various political parties have emphasized the need for party transformation in line with the Gen Z movement and have highlighted the amendment of the constitution as a major agenda. During a dialogue organized by the Ujjwal Thapa Foundation on Thursday, the leaders acknowledged the clear message for reform conveyed by the Gen Z movement, and recognized their efforts to collaborate with political entities as positive.
According to National News Agency Nepal, a senior leader of the Nepali Communist Party, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, noted the urgency of not only political transformation but also reorganization to address changes in the nation’s economic and social landscape. However, he expressed concerns regarding the leadership’s failure to execute the party’s transformation.
General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, highlighted the importance of civic movements in driving political change. He emphasized the need for the new generation to engage actively in these movements, stating that their recommendations for amending rules and laws would be meaningful. Thapa also stressed the importance of political parties being open to suggestions from both internal and external sources, expressing concern over the lack of such a trend within political organizations.
Moreover, Yogesh Bhattarai, Secretary of the CPN UML, emphasized that political parties, as public institutions, must be accountable in the pursuit of social transformation. He added that a party’s culture of accepting feedback is crucial for building a tolerant organization.
