Kathmandu: Nepal Trade Union Congress has submitted a memorandum to the party leadership as part of its pressure campaign for timely election to the House of Representatives (HoR). Acting President of NC, Purna Bahadur Khadka, was handed over the memorandum, reminding the party line to devote to the HoR election at the earliest. The memorandum emphasized that the NC needs to engage in the March 5 HoR election with a fresh policy and new leadership, and stressed the importance of voting rights for Nepalis working abroad.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Trade Union Congress highlighted the need for addressing the problems faced by industries and tourism institutions. Union Chairman Yogendra Kunwar met with Acting President Khadka on Tuesday to submit the memorandum. Kunwar emphasized that both political parties and the government need to address problems in factories that have emerged, especially following the Gen Z protest. A 13-point decision of the Trade Union Congress was also shared with Acting President Khadka.
Kunwar expressed concerns about the potential for capital flight due to the closure of industries in the country. He noted that there are 400 thousand members in the NC-affiliated Trade Union, underscoring the significant impact of these issues on a large segment of the workforce.
