Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has denied recognition to the Janaswaraj Party, a group split from Janamat Party. A full bench comprising senior most justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, judges Sunil Kumar Pokhrel, and Meghraj Pokharel denied recognition to Janaswaraj as a political party.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the judges invoked the provision of Political Party (2nd Amendment) Ordinance, 2078, and the Amendment to the Political Party Division, 2074. An ordinance was introduced to amend the Act Relating to Political Party, but the court argued that the ordinance itself was rendered ineffective. Consequently, the provision of the existing Act remained in effect.
