Kathmandu: A special assembly of the representatives of the Nepali Congress’ general convention, who support the call for a special general convention, was convened here on Wednesday.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the assembly took place at the City Hall on Exhibition Road, drawing participation from 54 percent of the general convention representatives involved in a signature campaign advocating for the special convention.
During the event, NC leader Omkar Shrestha emphasized the necessity of a general convention under the current circumstances, stating, “There is no alternative to general convention in present condition.”
In addition, leader Gururaj Ghimire addressed the assembly, criticizing those in power for decades. He asserted that they have no right to dismiss the signatures of party supporters as counterfeit, urging them to investigate any alleged fraudulent signatures.
The representatives, accounting for 54 percent of the general convention delegates, had previously submitted an application with their signatures to the party headquarters on October 15, formally demanding the initiation of a special general convention.
