Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has inspected the Nakkhu-based Ncell Office today. Ncell Chairperson Satish Lal Acharya and Chief Executive Officer Michael Foley welcomed Minister Kharel and briefed him about the losses caused during the Gen Z protest.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Ncell has been providing its service from the Nakkhu-based office after its central office located at Lainchaur was vandalized, looted, and torched during the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9. In a statement during his visit, Minister Kharel expressed satisfaction with Ncell’s innovative approach of introducing a service pack targeting the Gen Z demographic. He also discussed plans to enhance telecom access at the Sagarmatha (Everest) Base Camp and other remote areas.
Minister Kharel acknowledged the significant property loss that Ncell suffered due to the protests and expressed the government’s readiness to provide support to the telecom company. He highlighted existing policy-level challenges and disputes, emphasizing the necessity for lawful resolution of these issues.
Chief Executive Officer Foley raised concerns about the current standard of Nepal’s telecom services, suggesting that government facilitation is crucial for advancing telecom services through policy-level improvements.
