Dhangadhi: Minister for Finance Rameshwor Prasad Khanal has underscored the critical importance of establishing a reliable highway to connect the north and south regions for the holistic development of the country.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during the inauguration of the Sudurpaschim Festival 2082 organized by the Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dhangadhi, Minister Khanal pointed out that the lack of a quality north-south road network has hindered the development progress in the Sudurpaschim province. He emphasized that north-south connectivity is crucial for harnessing the diverse geographies, cultures, and capabilities that drive economic growth. The Finance Minister acknowledged the challenges faced in the region due to inadequate connectivity.
Minister Khanal further highlighted the importance of leveraging local resources for large-scale projects and expressed his commitment to completing ongoing projects swiftly. He noted the influence of the younger generation, or Gen Z, in pushing for change and stressed the necessity of conducting timely elections, scheduled for March 5, 2026, to institutionalize this aspiration for change. Despite time constraints, he assured that efforts are underway to accelerate development initiatives.
During the event, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, Chairperson of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), called for collaborative efforts to develop Sudurpaschim and pledged his support towards this goal. Gopal Hamal, Mayor of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City, highlighted the rise in poverty levels in the province and advocated for increased economic activities through investments in impactful projects.
Pushkar Raj Ojha, Chairperson of the Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed concerns over the delays in addressing the region’s development needs through annual festivals. The event also recognized individuals who have significantly contributed to the province’s development across various sectors, including journalism, health service, language and literature, industry and trade, social service, education, tourism, agriculture, folklore, sports, and cricket.
