Kathmandu: Senior Vice-Chair Ishwor Pokharel has declared his intention to run for the position of chair at the upcoming 11th National Congress of UML. The announcement was made during an interaction with editors, signaling his commitment to lead the party with inclusivity and adherence to procedural norms, including leadership transition.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Pokharel emphasized the importance of accepting election outcomes as a natural part of the democratic process. He affirmed his dedication to the party, regardless of the election results, and advocated for the right of individuals to participate in politics, respecting constitutional guidelines, party statutes, and international best practices.
Pokharel refrained from commenting on the ongoing judicial consideration regarding the restoration of the House of Representatives, maintaining that UML will participate in the forthcoming elections as a testament to its belief in democracy. He also expressed support for unity among the country’s leftist forces.
The interaction also saw the presence of other notable party figures, including Vice Chair Ashtalakshmi Shakya, Yubaraj Gyawali, Surendra Pandey, and Secretaries Yogesh Bhattarai and Gokarna Bista.
