Kathmandu: Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut has emphasized the necessity of impartiality, integrity, and transparency in the court and justice sector. Speaking at the inauguration of the 51st executive council and national seminar on human rights organized by the Nepal Bar Association, he highlighted the inseparability of human rights and justice.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief Justice Raut discussed the challenges of safeguarding human rights in the current political climate, noting that discussions about good governance and justice are futile without a foundation in human rights. He revealed that over 900,000 files in the Supreme Court and other courts were destroyed during a Gen Z protest, causing significant setbacks for the justice sector.
Attorney General Sabita Baral remarked that ensuring human rights would pave the way for good governance in the country. She underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in the justice sector as prerequisites for human rights.
The seminar also featured insights from the President of the Nepal Bar Association, Dr. Bijay Prasad Mishra, and former President and senior advocate Shambhu Thapa. The two-day meeting is attended by approximately 500 legal practitioners.
