Kathmandu: CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has indicated his willingness to continue as the party’s Chair if there is consensus or if he is elected by delegates during the upcoming 11th National Congress.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chairman Oli shared these views during a meeting with editors organized by Press Chautari Nepal. He expressed optimism that the party’s 11th National Congress would usher in some changes, including a gradual generational transition and leadership handover.
Oli emphasized that he would not operate under any pressure or set preconditions. He encouraged senior Vice Chair Ishwar Pokharel and other party leaders to work towards internal consensus rather than presenting external proposals.
The former Prime Minister highlighted UML’s long-standing history as a political entity committed to public demand and nation-building. He invited critics to attend the party’s National Congress inaugural session in Sallaghari, Bhaktapur on December 13, to witness UML’s current status.
Chairman Oli also mentioned his discussions with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on national political issues, including the restoration of Parliament, aligning the UML with the reinstatement of Parliament.
Addressing the recent movements on September 8 and 9, Oli stated that he respects court decisions, despite any dissatisfaction, and noted that there is no legal obligation for him to testify before the inquiry commission investigating those events.
The UML’s 11th National Congress is scheduled for December 13-15.
