Kathmandu: The Election Commission has distributed election symbols to political parties participating in the proportional representation (PR) electoral system for the upcoming election to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 5.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the EC provided the election symbols on Friday to the political parties registered for the election purpose. Assistant Election Officer, Yagya Prasad Bhattarai, noted that the EC had set a three-day deadline, starting from December 7, for political parties to register their applications for the PR system.
Although 100 political parties filed applications to participate in the PR system, 93 election symbols were distributed. Bhattarai mentioned that some political parties would be contesting under a single symbol as part of an alliance.
The allocation of election order and symbols was based on votes received under the PR system in the House of Representatives election held in 2079 BS. For other political parties, the order was det
ermined based on their registration.
