Kathmandu: The Election Commission has unveiled the ‘Civic Education Promotion Resource Booklet for Election Programs’ as part of its preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives elections, now just 77 days away.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Election Education Resource Booklet, 2082, is specifically designed for social studies teachers and is themed ‘Election Education and Information Expansion as Infrastructure for Free and Fair Elections’. The Commission has made the booklet available to the public through its website, aiming to enhance knowledge and awareness about the electoral process.
The booklet is structured into seven chapters, each covering essential topics. Chapter one delves into democracy and the constitution, while chapter two addresses election and political party-related provisions. Chapter three discusses the electoral system, various levels of elections, and inclusiveness. The fourth chapter outlines the election cycle and processes, including voting procedures, the NOTA option, and vote counting.
Furthermore, Chapter Five examines election management bodies and related laws. Chapter Six focuses on compliance with the election code of conduct, including monitoring and supervision. The final chapter discusses election stakeholders, citizens’ duties and rights, and the role of teachers in the election process, as well as promoting visits to the Election Education and Information Center.
