Chitwan: The number of individuals opting for non-resident citizenship in Chitwan has surpassed those relinquishing their Nepali citizenship. Since last July, 40 people have renounced their citizenship, whereas 49 have acquired non-resident Nepali citizenship.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Assistant Chief District Officer Chiranjivi Sharma reported that of those renouncing their citizenship, 13 are women and 27 are men. He explained that individuals typically renounce their Nepali citizenship upon returning to Nepal in order to obtain non-resident citizenship.
Since July, the district has seen 20 women and 29 men successfully secure non-resident citizenship. To acquire this status, applicants must complete a form provided by the office and submit a photocopy of their passport, foreign citizenship, a citizenship renunciation certificate, and have it verified by a relative or acquaintance.
Sharma further stated that Nepalis living abroad often pursue non-resident citizenship to facilitate investments in Nepal. Additionally, he noted that in the district, the citizenship of two individuals has been revoked due to them holding dual citizenship or engaging in anti-state activities.
Since July, 3,759 individuals have received citizenship based on descent from the Chitwan office, and 11 individuals have obtained citizenship through marriage.
