Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasized the invaluable contribution of senior citizens as a source of information and societal development. Extending his best wishes to all Nepali people at home and abroad on the occasion of the National Senior Citizens Day, 2082 BS, President Paudel highlighted the importance of respecting and protecting senior citizens, who he described as the embodiment of love, affection, and compassion.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Paudel expressed his hopes for the successful celebration of National Senior Citizens Day, encouraging everyone to facilitate a dignified life and livelihood for the elderly. He called for respectful behavior towards senior citizens and urged collaboration among families, society, organizations, and the three tiers of government to ensure the transfer of knowledge, skills, and experiences from the elderly generation.
The President also appealed to the relevant authorities to enhance the effectiveness of government-sponsored facilities and entitlements aimed at providing social security and protection for senior citizens.
Meanwhile, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, in a message delivered on the occasion, stressed that senior citizens should be regarded as a source of awareness rather than a burden. He underscored the need for senior citizen-friendly infrastructure, improved social security, community support, and better mental health care for the elderly to maintain their dignity.
The government annually celebrates Senior Citizens Day on Poush 11 (December 26), following the Bikram Sambat calendar, to raise respect and awareness about the challenges faced by senior citizens. With the theme ‘Our Shared Campaign: Respect and Honour for Senior Citizens’, the 2025 National Senior Citizens Day is being marked with various programs today.
