Kathmandu: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called upon all relevant bodies to ensure that the upcoming election to the House of Representatives is conducted in a manner that respects human rights by fully adhering to the established election code of conduct. The election is scheduled to take place on March 5.
According to National News Agency Nepal, NHRC has emphasized the importance of maintaining a human rights-friendly environment throughout the electoral process. During a discussion held on Thursday with leaders and representatives from various organizations involved in election monitoring, NHRC underscored the need for effective election monitoring and observation. NHRC Spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokharel highlighted the importance of protecting the citizen’s right to confidential voting, stressing that any audio or video recordings of the voting process shared on social platforms would constitute a breach of voters’ privacy.
The commission further noted that disseminating content aimed at undermining others’ dignity is a violation that requires close monitoring. Additionally, NHRC expressed its concerns regarding certain candidates and political party offices that have not adhered to the election code of conduct, urging for strict compliance to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
