Kathmandu: A 10-member Nepali team, including six players, is set to depart for China on Saturday to participate in the 10th World Junior Wushu Championship. The event is scheduled to take place from March 23 to 31, with athletes competing for a spot in the upcoming Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the players representing Nepal at the championship include Rashmi Tamang, Girish Paudel, Lhakpa Dolma Lama, Sara Tamang, Samrat Thapa, and Chhiring Sherpa. The team is not only competing for medals but also aiming for qualification in the prestigious Youth Olympics.
The contingent also includes coaches Lanam Lama and Jang Bahadur Tamang, along with referees Manjur Maharjan and Govind Bahadur Shahi. The team’s preparation and strategy will be vital as they face competitors from around the world.
Member Secretary at the National Sports Council, Ram Charitra Mehata, and Board member Kamal Bahadur Bhattarai bid farewell to the team, conveying their best wishes at a send-off event held on Thursday. The support from the council is seen as a positive boost for the athletes as they embark on this significant international competition.
