Dotyali Museum Established to Preserve Sudurpaschim’s Cultural Heritage

Dadeldhura: The Dadeldhura Public Library has established the Dotyali Museum, which aims to showcase the traditional lifestyle, costumes, and cultural identity of the Sudurpaschim Province. The museum features a collection of historical artifacts from the Dotyali community.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Pushkar Bahadur Deuba, Chief of the Museum, stated that the museum was established to preserve and promote ancient heritages that are gradually facing extinction due to the impacts of market expansion and modern lifestyle. Deuba emphasized the museum’s role in educating the new generation about their unique identity by displaying goods used by their ancestors.

The museum boasts a variety of exhibits, including clothes, jewelry, traditional weapons, and daily-use goods from the past. It also highlights traditional agricultural practices, featuring tools such as ploughs, ropes, yokes, winnows, and baskets that depict the rural livelihood of the region.

Kamdev Ojha, a resident of Amargadhi Municipality-5, noted that the museum’s collection of ancient jewelry and ornaments serves as a reminder of the community’s social and cultural past. The establishment of the museum was supported by financial and other assistance from the Amargadhi Municipality and the Taragaun Development Committee under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Museum officials continue to collect goods, visiting rural settlements in the region to further enrich the museum’s offerings.
