Efforts Underway to Drain Lake Formed by Marsyangdi River Blockage

Ljubljana:The Marsyangdi River, blocked by debris from the swollen Ghattekhola stream after heavy rainfall, continues to flow partially on both sides of a bridge, despite efforts to clear it. The blockage was caused by mud, sand, rock, and pebbles.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Assistant Chief District Officer and Information Officer Krishna Prasad Poudel reported that efforts are being made to drain the lake formed due to the blockage. Excavators are being used to release the water, with a Nepali Army chopper transporting necessary fuel for these machines.

The operation involves coordination between local, provincial, and federal governments, with guidance from experts. Lokendra Bahadur Ghale, Chief of Chame Rural Municipality, mentioned that various equipment, including local excavators, is being utilized to manage the water flow and mitigate risk.

The altered course of the river has resulted in the inundation of some nearby houses. Additionally, the flood and landslides have completely disrupted essential services such as electricity, drinking water, telephone, internet, and road networks.

The situation has also affected local transportation, as a bridge connecting Naso Rural Municipality-8 and 9 was swept away by the flood, hindering movement in the area.
