Kathmandu:Minister for Information and Communication Dr. Bikram Timilsina has outlined the government’s initiatives to create a supportive environment for youth engagement in entrepreneurship and innovation. Addressing the fifth edition of the ‘Nepal Youth Entrepreneurship Conference 2026’ in the capital, he emphasized that Nepal’s economic prosperity can be achieved by harnessing the knowledge, skills, creativity, and technological capabilities of its youth.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Timilsina called for increased investment in research and innovation, stating that while the government should establish favorable conditions, the private sector must also actively participate. He highlighted a global trend of rising youth interest in entrepreneurship, which is mirrored in Nepal, where young individuals are contributing to the production, services, and technology sectors.
The Minister stressed the importance of collaboration among the government, private sector, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to advance entrepreneurship and innovation. He also noted the development of new talent in information technology as a crucial opportunity for economic transformation in the country. Timilsina advocated for shifting focus from exporting labor to promoting Nepali services globally through technological advancements.
Additionally, Minister Timilsina emphasized that technology should enhance human creativity and be used as a tool to maximize human potential rather than replace it. He pointed out that the government’s role is not limited to policy formulation but also includes effective implementation to benefit citizens, entrepreneurs, and the economy. He remarked on the evolving nature of education and skill development, encouraging a shift from formal educational qualifications to skills that meet future market demands.
Sudan Jha, a member of the National Planning Commission, also spoke at the event, acknowledging Nepal’s gradual progress in artificial intelligence (AI), though noting it is still relatively weak. He reported increased participation of Nepali youth in AI and entrepreneurship and growing investments in information technology. Jha highlighted the government’s commitment to effectively implementing AI-related policies to improve service delivery, boost economic contributions, ensure data security, and create employment opportunities.
