Pokhara:A tragic school bus accident in Pokhara Metropolis-28, Kaski, resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including four students from Kalika English Boarding School. Two of the deceased students have been identified as Mamata Tiwari and Asim Kandel. Additionally, a local resident, Baburam Tiwari, 65, who had requested a ride on the bus, was also killed. The identities of the remaining two deceased have not yet been confirmed.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the accident left several injured. Among the injured are students Srishti Tiwari, Shisan Thapa Magar, Saugat Timilsina, Asmi Kandel, Sneha Gautam, Sonia Tiwari, and Ankit Parajuli, all hailing from Pokhara Metropolitan City-28. Additional injured individuals include Smriti Khatri, Sneha Tiwari, Akriti Budhathoki, Merina Tiwari, Supriya Acharya, and Yaman Magar from Madi Rural Municipality-12, along with the bus driver, Tul Bahadur Gurung. They are receiving treatment at the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences and Gandaki Medical College.
To investigate the accident, the Pokhara Metropolis has established a five-member committee led by senior education officer Badrinath Subedi. The committee includes mechanical engineer Saroj Chalise, Municipal Education Committee member Dolraj Pandey, Municipal police inspector Purushottam Thapa, and traffic assistant inspector Amrit Bhattarai. They are tasked with submitting a report within five days.
The bus, which was transporting students from Majhthana, crashed at a cliff in Okhle. The local government has expressed deep sorrow over the incident, paying tribute to those who lost their lives and extending condolences to their families. Mayor Dhanraj Acharya emphasized that the committee aims to identify measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
