Kathmandu:An influx of travelers returning to the Kathmandu Valley following the Dashain festival has led to increased traffic at the main entry points into the region.
According to National News Agency RSS, the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office (KVTPO) has reported a significant rise in inbound vehicular traffic on roads such as Nagdhunga-Kalanki, Jadibuti-Koteshwor, Tinpiple, Jagati in Bhaktapur, Bhattedanda, and Dakshinkali-Pharping. This increase is attributed to travelers returning after receiving Dashain ‘tika’ and blessings.
Senior Superintendent of Police Suresh Prasad Kafle, Chief of KVTPO, stated that traffic police have been actively deployed to facilitate easier travel for passengers and to manage vehicle congestion. Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for KVTPO, noted that road monitoring has been heightened to ease travel, manage traffic flow, and reduce the risk of accidents, as the number of passengers returning to the valley continues to grow daily.
The KVTPO reports that approximately a thousand vehicles, including private cars, jeeps, motorcycles, and various sizes of public transport, pass through these entry points each day. Statistical data from KVTPO indicates that 576,578 people exited the Valley using 79,676 vehicles from Ghatasthapana (October 11) to October 20 to celebrate Dashain, Nepal’s largest festival.
