ACC Sues Ex-State Minister Meher Afroz Chumki on Graft Charges

Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed a case against former state minister Meher Afroz Chumki for allegedly acquiring wealth through illegal means inconsistent with known sources of her income. ACC Director General (Prevention) Akhter Hossain briefed journalists on the matter at the ACC Headquarters this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC has accused Meher Afroz of illegally acquiring assets worth approximately Taka five crore, 27 lakh, 31 thousand and 356. These assets are reportedly inconsistent with her known income sources, suggesting the use of her government position for personal financial gain.

Furthermore, significant transactions in Chumki’s bank accounts have raised suspicion. Deposits amounting to Taka 12 crore, 32 lakh, 19 thousand and 117, along with transactions totaling Taka nine crore, 99 lakh, 31 thousand and 57 across nine bank accounts, have been deemed unusual and suspicious by the ACC.
