Kathmandu: Leela Ballav Adhikari, who recently resigned as the Minister for Internal Affairs and Law in the Koshi Province government, is being brought to Kathmandu today following his arrest on the charge of forgery. Adhikari is accused of producing fake documents to facilitate the travel of three individuals to Japan. The accused and the three individuals were deported from Tokyo Airport on October 30.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Adhikari allegedly facilitated the travel of Dawa Sherpa, Janak Rai from Khotang, and Kanchan Devkota from Rasuwa by using forged documents. It is reported that Adhikari received Rs. 1 million from each of these individuals for their illegal travel arrangements. The District Police Office in Morang has confirmed his arrest, and procedures are underway to bring him to Kathmandu from Morang, as stated by Nawaraj Adhikari, the Spokesperson, and Superintendent of Police at the District Police Range in Kathmandu.
On Saturday, the CPN (UML) Central Secretariat endorsed the
decision of the party’s Koshi Province chapter to expel Adhikari from the party. This decision included the annulment of his general membership, further isolating him from the political landscape following his arrest.
