Agriculture Minister Calls for Technology Integration in Seed Supply Sector.

Kathmandu: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, has emphasized the need to make the seed supply sector technology-driven as the world advances into a technological era. During the launch of the seed-related software ‘Desis-2’, the Agriculture Minister highlighted the importance of integrating agriculture with information technology to achieve significant advancements in the agro sector.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Adhikari advocated for a digitized seed distribution system to enhance the entire agriculture sector. He suggested that the sector should leverage the government’s ‘Digital Nepal Framework’ to gain comparative advantages. The Minister also underscored the importance of agriculture, tourism, energy, and large infrastructure construction for Nepal’s development, promoting digital literacy as a step towards technology-based agriculture.

He expressed optimism that the newly-launched software would improve farmers’ access to quality seeds. The soft
ware, developed by the Ministry’s Seed Quality Control Centre with support from various donor agencies, is expected to facilitate the digitalization of seed supply across the three tiers of the government. Centre’s Chief Benu Prasad Prasain noted that the software will play a crucial role in enhancing farmers’ access to quality seeds through digital means.
