Rangpur: Police arrested Organizing Secretary of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Thana Awami League Omar Faruk today in several cases related to the anti-discrimination student movement in Rangpur metropolis.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, “On a tip off, police arrested him from the city’s rail gate area,” Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station Md Ataur Rahman stated this evening.
Omar Faruk, who was also a former General Secretary of Rangpur Kotwali Thana Chhatra League, faces several charges, including an attempted murder case, linked to the anti-discrimination student movement. He had reportedly been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government.
Following his arrest, police produced Omar Faruk before a Rangpur court, from where he was sent to jail this afternoon.
