AL leader remanded for 3 days in Rangpur

A court here today granted a three-day remand to

Office Secretary of Kotwali Thana Awami League (AL) Sohel Rana Emon in the

case of attacks on the Anti-Discrimination Student-People Movement on July 19

last in the city.

Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Md Soyebur Rahman granted

the remand when the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case Sub-inspector (SI)

Nurun Nabi produced the accused with a 10-day remand prayer.

“After hearing from both sides, the Judge granted Sohel’s three-day police

remand in the attempted murder case,” the IO told local reporters.

Earlier, Kotwali Thana police arrested Sohel last night from the city.

During the Anti-Discrimination Student-People Movement, police and leaders

and activists of AL and its associate bodies attacked students and people in

Rangpur City Market area on July 19 injuring Mamdel Hossain and many others.

While undergoing treatment, injured Mamdel’s left side leg below the knee and

three fingers of his left hand were amputated.

In this
incident, Mamdel’s maternal uncle Abul Kashem filed a case of

attempted murder as the plaintiffs citing names of 80 people with 400-500

others as unknown accused on August 25.
