Dhaka: An all-party meeting is set to take place on Thursday with the objective of finalizing the proclamation of the July Revolution. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is expected to attend the meeting.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Mahfuj Alam announced the meeting at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. The council of advisers has already formulated a draft of the July proclamation and engaged in discussions with several political parties, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, as well as various stakeholders. However, they have not yet reached all stakeholders.
Alam mentioned that dialogues have taken place with numerous groups, including women’s organizations, all of whom agreed on the necessity of the July proclamation. Despite this agreement, there remains a lack of consensus on the contents of the proclamation. The upcoming all-party meeting aims to prepare a document through consensus, which will clarify the timing and the government’s role in announcing the proclamation.
The adviser expressed hope that the context and expectations surrounding the July proclamation would be adequately reflected in the final document. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam also addressed the press briefing.
In response to inquiries, Mahfuj Alam noted that the government has informally communicated with many parties and anticipates understanding the disagreements over the July proclamation during the meeting. He claimed that the BNP is supportive of the proclamation and emphasized the government’s intent to engage all allied forces of the July Revolution in finalizing the document, ensuring their representation at the meeting.
Regarding the Jatiya Party, Alam clarified that the government did not deem it necessary or logical to involve them in the dialogue, as they were not asked to join. He further expressed hope that the political parties victorious in the next general elections would become allies of the July Revolution and uphold the spirit of the proclamation.
