Manang: A border outpost is to be set up at the Nepal-China border in Manang district. The BOP will be established at Phu village, Narpabhumi Rural Municipality-4 in the district for managing the border transit point, the District Administration Office, Manang said.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the BOP is being set up at an altitude of about 4,000 meters above sea level. Chief District Officer Matrika Acharya stated the BOP is being established to enhance ease and security along the border. He mentioned that 20 ropanis of land has been allocated on long-term rent to the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal for setting up the BOP.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Acharya highlighted that Phu is a remote area of Manang and anticipates that the establishment of the BOP will enhance border security and surveillance, as well as control transnational crime, especially since there is no road network in the area. A total of 35 armed police personnel, including a police inspector, will be stationed at the BOP.
CDO Acharya added that the establishment of the BOP at Phu will occur as soon as possible in coordination with Narpabhumi Rural Municipality. He believes that the BOP will significantly improve peace and security, disaster management, and the rescue of tourists affected by high altitude sickness.
Narpabhumi Rural Municipality shares a border with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It takes two days on foot to travel from the district headquarters in Chame to reach Phu village.
