Army Chief Adorned with ‘Colonel of the Regiment’

Chattogram: Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman was adorned with the 17th ‘Colonel of the Regiment’ of the traditional East Bengal Regiment with befitting military status at the Shaheed MR Chowdhury Parade Ground of the East Bengal Regimental Center (EBRC) in Chattogram Cantonment. The head of the army has been ceremoniously given the title and responsibilities of “Colonel of the Regiment,” which signifies leadership and guardianship over a specific regiment within the army, often with historical significance.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, on his arrival at the parade ground, the army chief was provided a ‘guard of honor’ as per traditional military customs. Following this, he was adorned with the ‘Colonel Rank Badge’ of the East Bengal Regiment by the Senior Commanding Officer and the Senior Master Warrant Officer of the regiment.

After the formalities, General Waker-Uz-Zaman visited the quarter guard of EBRC and planted a sapling at the Smriti Kanan premises. During the event, he delivered a directive speech, as reported by the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a release.

Subsequently, the army chief addressed the 37th Annual Captain’s Conference of the East Bengal Regiment. He discussed the development of the regiment, the enhancement of professional skills, and activities conducted both domestically and internationally. He urged the members of the regiment to be prepared to face the challenges of the 21st century through modern training.

The event was attended by senior officers from the Army Headquarters, Army Training and Doctrine Command, local formations, East Bengal Regiment, and media personalities, among others.
