Kathmandu: The newly-appointed Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Kiran Thapa Magar, successfully secured the vote of confidence from the province assembly.
According to National News Agency Nepal, in the voting conducted on Tuesday, Thapa Magar received 57 votes with backing from ruling partners CPN (UML), Nepali Communist Party, and seven province assembly members of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). He obtained the vote of confidence as per Article 168 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Secretary at the Province Assembly Secretariat, Ram Kumar Paudel, mentioned that the province assembly members from the Nepali Congress, Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party, and Hamro Nepali Party were absent from the meeting. Thapa Magar was appointed Chief Minister on August 20 with the support of 63 province assembly members.
Earlier, ruling partners CPN (UML) and Nepali Communist Party issued a whip to their province assembly members, urging them to provide the vote of confidence to Thapa Magar. However, the RPP faced internal disputes over supporting the new chief minister and participation in the government. Amid these internal feuds, six province assembly members of the RPP extended their vote of confidence to Thapa Magar, while six others were absent from the meeting.
