Bangladesh Customs to Play Pioneering Role in Strengthening Economic Base: CA


Dhaka: Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus has expressed hope that Bangladesh Customs will pioneer efforts to bolster the nation’s economic foundation, contributing to a more enriched state coffer. He believes that Bangladesh Customs will invigorate the country’s economic landscape by simplifying import and export operations and ensuring a secure supply of commodities.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Yunus conveyed this message in anticipation of ‘International Customs Day-2025’, which will be observed tomorrow, as stated in a PID handout today. He commended the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for joining other countries around the globe in celebrating this day.



Bangladesh, as a member of the World Customs Organization (WCO), has been actively participating in International Customs Day celebrations. On this occasion, the Chief Adviser extended his heartfelt congratulations to all stakeholders, including Bangladesh Customs officials, employees, and service recipients.



The theme for this year’s Customs Day is “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security and Prosperity.” Dr Yunus emphasized that Bangladesh Customs plays a crucial role in expanding international trade, attracting foreign investment, safeguarding local industry markets, and sustaining the nation’s economic activities.



He highlighted the ongoing efforts of Bangladesh Customs’ skilled workforce in ensuring revenue collection while maintaining environmental and health safety standards, as well as facilitating import and export operations. These efforts contribute to improving the living standards of the common people.



In light of current global, political, and economic contexts, Dr Yunus underscored the importance of the theme “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security and Prosperity.” He expressed his confidence that Bangladesh Customs’ skilled personnel will expedite the inspection of import and export goods through technology, thereby streamlining customs procedures and the offloading of goods.



Dr Yunus concluded by wishing the ‘International Customs Day-2025’ the utmost success, emphasizing that these efforts will further strengthen the supply chain and energize the nation’s economy.
