Osaka: A high-level delegation from Bangladesh, led by Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), has actively engaged with top Japanese companies and business groups in Osaka to enhance trade and investment relations. This initiative aims to bolster Bangladesh’s foreign direct investment (FDI) and extend its global trade network.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the delegation included senior officials such as the BIDA Director General, Head of Business Development, representatives from Bangladesh Bank and the National Board of Revenue (NBR), and the Commercial Counsellor from the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo. The team held discussions with Shoji Uehara, Executive Officer of Daikin Industries Ltd., a leader in air conditioning, automotive products, and semiconductors, who expressed considerable interest in investing in Bangladesh’s industrial and technology sectors.
The delegation also engaged with Masahiro Imai, Ambassador and Senior Vice President of ITOCHU Corporation, a prominent Japanese company involved in textiles, machinery, metals, and food. ITOCHU signaled its intent to increase sourcing and explore new investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s textile and manufacturing industries.
Further discussions took place with the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), led by Moishima Hiromitsu, along with representatives from sectors including electronics, metals, manufacturing, textiles, and IT. These meetings focused on knowledge-sharing and facilitating easier trade between Bangladesh and Japan.
Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun emphasized the reforms Bangladesh is implementing to foster a business-friendly environment. He stated, “We are committed to strengthening our economic ties with Japan and are eager to welcome more Japanese businesses to invest in Bangladesh.” These meetings signify a vital step in enhancing Bangladesh-Japan economic cooperation and paving the way for new investments and robust trade partnerships.
