Dhaka: Bangladesh Navy’s annual sea exercise, ‘Exercise Safe Guard-2024’, commenced today, as per a press release from the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the exercise aims to protect the sovereignty and economic interests of Bangladesh’s maritime borders. It will be conducted in coordination with relevant maritime organizations during periods of crisis. The exercise is designed to enhance the professional capacity of the naval forces through three distinct phases.
The exercise will include strategic operations by the naval fleet, monitoring maritime borders, conducting search and rescue campaigns, logistics and landing operations, and defending naval installations in coastal areas. The final day will feature ship-to-ship and anti-aircraft missile launches, anti-aircraft shelling, anti-submarine rocket depth charge launches, and various naval warfare tactics.
A considerable number of Bangladesh Navy ships, including frigates, corvettes, OPVs, mine sweepers, patrol craft, and missile boats, will participate. Bangladesh Navy’s Elite Special Operations Force (SWADS) and specialized maritime patrol aircraft and helicopters will also be involved in the exercise.
In addition to the Navy, the Bangladesh Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard, along with related maritime organizations, will participate directly and indirectly, as stated in the ISPR release.
