Dhaka: The belongings of martyrs from the July uprising, including Abu Sayed, Washim Akram, Mir Mugdho, and Farhanul Islam, have been archived at Dhaka University. These items are set to be displayed at the July Memorial Museum, marking a significant effort to honor those who sacrificed their lives during the uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the family members of the martyrs handed over these personal belongings to Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan, the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, on Sunday. The items include shirts, pants, Panjabis, hand watches, favorite books, and photographs of the martyrs, symbolizing their personal and historical significance.
Present at the occasion were Abu Sayed’s mother Monowara Begum, his brother, Shaheed Wasim’s father Shafiul Alam, his sister Sabrina Yasmin, Farhan Fayyaz’s father Alhaj Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, and Mir Mughda’s brother Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha. Key members of the Dhaka University administration, including Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Mamun Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor (Admin) Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Treasurer Prof. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, and Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, were also in attendance.
Prof. Niaz Ahmed emphasized the importance of building organizational relations with the martyrs’ families. By archiving these belongings at the July Memorial Museum, the Dhaka University family aims to forge a lasting connection with the families of the martyrs. “We are trying to keep their loved ones in our program. Besides, we are trying to provide financial support to the families who suffered most during the movement,” he stated.
Furthermore, the university administration has established a committee to identify students responsible for attacks during the uprising on the Dhaka University campus, with the intent of bringing them under legal scrutiny, Prof. Niaz Ahmed added.
