Kathmandu: Funds of Rs 1.91 billion have been deposited into the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund within a period of 36 hours. The government has appealed for public contributions to the Fund following the August 26 flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River and other rivers in its system.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Finance Ministry reported that the amount was deposited between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday midnight. Contributors deposited over Rs 1.91 billion into the accounts of 10 different Banijya (commercial banks).
The Finance Ministry has been designated as the focal ministry for coordinating the contributions to the Fund. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle is available for accepting assistance of Rs 10 million or more at the institutional level by himself. With this, the total balance in the Fund has reached Rs 4.09 billion.
Meanwhile, Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd. on Friday met the Finance Minister and handed a cheque for Rs 150 million as assistance.
