Chattogram: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has stated that the 31-point reform proposal formulated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is sufficient for sustainable state reform. ‘BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has formulated a 31-point proposal to bring a sustainable reform to the state as well as to determine what reforms will be made if BNP comes to power in the future,’ he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, who is also a former city unit BNP President, made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on “Open Discussion and Expression of Opinions.” This seminar was organized by Advanced Nationalists for Democracy (AND), a research-based organization of former Jatiyatabadi Chattra Dal (JCD) leaders from Chattogram University (CU).
The seminar took place at the CCC Library auditorium in the Laldighi area of the city on Tuesday afternoon. Dr. Shahadat emphasized that reform is a continuous process and highlighted that an elected government can address various problems with strength, courage, and skills, while bringing necessary reforms-a task not feasible for an interim government.
He further remarked that students are the real vanguards of the country’s historic movements, such as the July-August Uprising, and stressed the importance of the next generation moving forward with the spirit of the Martyred. Dr. Shahadat mentioned that the sacrifices and contributions of Martyred Wasim Akram, a JCD leader from the Chattogram region, have not been properly honored despite an elevated expressway being named after him in the port city to address discrimination and pay homage.
Additionally, the CCC Mayor announced that a park in the city’s Ambagan area will also be named after Shaheed Wasim. The event saw participation from various members including Hasan Ahmed, Md. Iqbal Hossain, Md. Yasin, and others, who addressed the audience during the seminar.
