Chairman Nepal Bats for Press Freedom


Kathmandu: CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has called for safeguarding press freedom. Marking the beginning of the third central committee meeting of the Socialist Press Organization here today, he said complete press freedom is needed to strengthen the federal democratic republic system.



According to National News Agency Nepal, recalling the crucial roles played by the media sector in all protests waged against totalitarianism, former PM Nepal stated that the media has roles to play for the country’s socioeconomic transformation as well. On the occasion, CPN (US) leader Prakash Jwala emphasized that the media should write about the marginalized classes and communities too.



During the event, the newly elected Vice President of the World Press Council, Kishor Shrestha, was honoured, highlighting the significant contributions of media figures in advocating for press freedom and social justice.
